Google Analytics, for those of you who've never had the pleasure, is a tool that allows a site's owner to monitor their online performance in a bunch of simultaneously fascinating and almost endlessly boring ways. It shows you how people get to your site through referrals, advertising and most interestingly, search phrases.
It's dead handy to have but sometimes it shares a bit too much.
For example:
I could have lived a rich and fulfilling life never knowing someone was googling for naked photos of me on January 11th (First, Ew. Second: You get a lot of Beth Ditto) or discovering a search term that included the phrase "dirty feet and bullwhips" landed some inevitably disappointed anti-pedicure S&M enthusiast on my launch page sometime last week.
I only hope he doesn't beat himself up about it.
On that note, I'm taking the rest of the day to have a nice drink and a lie down before I completely gross myself out. Have a wonderful weekend you all, and be sure to put your plans in the comments!
Confidential to Nude Googler:It's all a question of lighting, darling...and roofies. Obviously.
Stay Creepy,
Rhiannon
I will forever regret the post I put on my blog five years ago about the Olympics that has led to variations on the phrase "shiny gymnast butts" being a constant presence in my search stats. And I'm sorry to say that the person who came looking for the answer to "why people use drugs in money" seems to have left empty-handed.
ReplyDeleteIt's a mixed blessing. If you have advertisers, a click is a click. But it does lead one's mind to boggle.
DeleteSo, my shape is more like the stone fetish above than Ms. Boop, which is why I had to check my search history to make sure that *I* was not the creepy person who looked for nude pics of you. I wasn't, but since I have often wondered if you and I are built similarly (you recommend a lot of lovely shape-specific dresses) I could have been. So, while the creeper could have been looking for your pics because you are gorgeous, he/she might also have had another reason. I'm not sure that makes you feel any better.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
I'm hoping it was just some former gentleman caller, but anyone I would've dated would've known me well enough to know they'd come up empty.
DeleteYou know, you could've just asked for a photo.

This is the best body-con one I can come up with where I'm not with someone else. I'm wearing a cheap high rise shaper, Adrianna Pappell dress, Loulou de la Falaise belt, Brian Atwood slingbacks and a handwoven shawl from Oaxaca. Forgive the watermarks, I had someone use my photos on dating sites in the past (not that you'd do that, obviously. The guy I caught was some dude from...Panama I think) so a girl can't be too careful.
You are, of course, right that I could have just asked. I didn't because you were mysteeeerious *hee*
DeleteAnyhoodle. Thank you so much for the pic. The color combo is stunning! I really appreciate being able to gauge how I might look in the dresses you recommend. No worries about the watermarks - totally understand.
This is barely related to your reply, but there is a Oaxacan restaurant in Philadelphia that makes the only mole I've ever loved...I see at least one lovely shawl also originated in Oaxaca.
I wrote a facetious piece about how padded bras and dresses with inserts in their self bras are designed to hide any hint of a nipple and it attracts many creepy searchers to my blog.
ReplyDeleteOh I believe it. Back at the Manolo I had limited access to that sort of thing, but when I did look, I was continuously amazed at the number of bizarre queries that landed people to my page.
DeleteLooks like you and I are about the same shape and, I'd venture a guess, height too. I've always loved your style selections (well, not so much the shoes-- you obviously have more patience for heels than I do. Everythign else though). Re: Adrianna Pappell dress- I have lusted after many in her collections. Those colors are amazing together.
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I found that dress at Ross for $34? I think someone had hidden it in the pajamas section to buy later, but I found it and swiped it up. For the record I'm 5'10" in flat feet and wet hair.
ReplyDeleteI love that color combination too and it was a last minute thing. Interestingly, I bought the fuchsia belt, shawl and shoes all separately, years apart. It wasn't until putting together that outfit I thought "hmmm...what if."
Totally love the accessories with the Dress.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the ladies that weave your shawls would put up a website? I would love to find long enough shawls in vibrant colors for the summer.
Alas, Sherry, I don't think they would. I'd be shocked if they had telephones, much less reliable access to the internet. That being said, I adore mine --I probably have ten-- and brought a ton to give as gifts when I went back to the states and Europe this fall.
ReplyDeleteIn Spanish they're called rebozos, so you might try googling. I found one shop that sells them but I'm sure there are many more.
I get mine for somewhere between ten and fifteen bucks each directly from the weavers, so twenty five bucks seems like a good deal.
